  • Cross multiply to combine two fractions into one

Question 1

  • 6x/(x-1)(x+2) = A/(x-1) + B/(x+2)
  • multiply each term by (x-1)(x+2)
  • let x = 1
  • let x = -2

Question 2

  • 6x/(x-2)(x+1)2 = A/(x-1) + B/(x+1) + C/(x+1)2
  • we are using all three factors of the denominator
  • multiply each term by (x-2)(x+1)2
  • let x = 1
  • let x = -2
